Although this oversized delivery wagon looked more like a paddy wagon or jail wagon when we purchased it, the remnants of paint and lettering on the wagon sides bore witness to the fact that this had once been a commercial delivery wagon for Wells Fargo and Co, which originated as an early transportation company in America.
Our client from California first became interested in this horse-drawn wagon as a way of "showing" his draft horses, but the rich history of the wagon and the fact that it most likely had origins from the California area made this an ideal choice. We started the restoration by thoroughly cleaning and reviewing the original wagon. After providing an evaluation of the wagon, our client opted for us to replace most of the wood components, saving the original running gear, hardware and wagon floor boards as the foundation for the historic wagon. We conducted extensive research by reviewing historical photos of similar delivery wagons owned and operated by Wells Fargo and Co. Once we provided this documentation to the new owner of the wagon, he selected traditional wagon colors of the era for the body and undercarriage. Permission was obtained to add the historic Wells Fargo and Co. logo. All the small details that we had uncovered on the original wagon where recreated meticulously.
