Cannon Restoration

After many years of sitting outside on display at the Fort Buford State Historic Site near Williston, North Dakota, this #1 1864 Cannon was in need of a complete restoration. 

Both the hubs and the felloes on the wheels had cracks that compromised the integrity of the wheel, so our wheelwright crafted new wheels that were exact replicas of the originals. The cannon carriage was stripped of old paint and all surfaces were sealed before new primer and paint was applied. The brass barrel was cleaned while being careful to leave the original patina intact.
