These steel backer irons are for securing hold back straps to the shafts. Sold per pair.
Sturdy loop is fastened to the shafts so that leather hold back straps can be securely buckled in place. The hold back straps hold the carriage when stopping or descending a hill. This keeps the horse from getting too close to the carriage.
