Holiday Greetings from Hansen Wheel and Wagon Shop on our 30th anniversary!  It has been our privilege to serve and work with you on your horse-drawn vehicle projects. We look forward to another season and another year, doing what we love and are passionate about. We build superior quality vehicles with historically accurate craftsmanship, while preserving the spirit of the old West. A special thanks to all our customers for your patronage. We are proud to share with you in the community of horse- drawn vehicle enthusiasts.
The work at HWWS continues as the year draws to a close. Many large projects are wrapping up right now and new projects are getting dug out and moved closer to the front.

The Spring 2008 newsletter mentioned Doug's preparation for the Historic Fort Pierre to Deadwood Trail Ride. Doug's Freight wagon and Stagecoach restorations were finished, hours or maybe minutes prior to leaving.

Ft. Pierre to Deadwood Trail

Many friends and family members worked hard to help Doug and Holly make a good showing for HWWS. Everyone was very proud of their efforts to make the entire 220 mile ride.

Ft. Pierre to Deadwood Trail

We had three historic vehicles on the trail, Doug drove Bill Nigg's Abbott-Downing stagecoach. Todd Bender and his sidekick teamster - Clay Austin, drove Doug's restored Mud wagon originally used on the Deadwood Trail, Lynn Peterson furnished the mules for Doug's Tall side freight wagon. As a team Lynn drove the freight wagon with Mike Strohfus.  Several of Doug's friends / customers / and neighbors were also very involved.

Projects of 2008

Below are our biggest projects we overcame this past year. Many of the vehicles pictured have been large undertakings with many original parts to be restored and replaced.  The Restoration process is always challenging when dealing with time frames and costs associated.

Sleigh Mural Christmas Sleigh

Our latest project is the restoration of a unique, original two-seated bob-sleigh for Gary Bertch of Waterloo, Iowa. This beautiful sleigh features a hand-painted winter scene on the rear seat panel and is going to it's new home just in time for Christmas.

San Diego Mud Wagon Stagecoach

Old town San Diego is the showcase of this authentic reproduction Mud wagon Passenger Coach, that left our shop in November. This was another interesting project with hours of historical research in the original vehicle.

Other projects included:

Single Seat Buckboard

a buckboard for Nolan and Mona Georgesen of Hubbard, NE.

Chuck Wagon and Pup

and a fancy chuck wagon completely outfitted with a trail pup for Steven Butler.

These are just a few examples of production in 2008.

SFWA Yellowstone

SFWA Yellowstone

The National Stagecoach and Freight Wagon Association had it's first meeting in, West Yellowstone on June 11-14th, 2008.Historians presented interesting and informative  talks on stagecoaches and freight wagons. The stage coach display consisted of 15 different styles of coaches that were on loan from a wide variety of organizations and individuals, from across the western part of the United States. Obviously the Yellowstone coaches were well represented, including coaches with seating capacities of  3, 8, 11, 17 & 25 passengers.
We'd like to invite you to attend our 2nd annual meeting in Santa Ynez, CA; in conjunction with the Western Vehicle Symposium.   If you would like to get involved in the history, restoration, or study of these important icons of Early American transportation, please click here to join the SFWA.
