Original Hitch Wagon

Here is an example of our conservation methods. This wagon is in it's original paint colors it was dressed in during the 1870's. It served major cities on the east coast and when it was rolled into our shop it was covered in a dirty darkened aged finish which we were able to remove and re seal with varnish to conserve. It is very rare to find a vehicle in this immaculate of condition being untouched for 100 years. Even the umbrella holder was still attached to the seat frame. It has it's share of scars but it speaks it's story serving the transportation of early America.

History

Hitch wagons, sometimes called express wagons or show wagons, were widely used for light trucking. Companies took great pride in the hitch wagons bearing their business name and in the magnificent team of horses that pulled them. Show wagons were pulled in parades and exhibitions to advertise companies and their products. Today, an astounding number of companies, breeders and draft-horse owners continue this tradition.
